Biomes are areas of the Earth that are similar in terms of climate. Biomes are larger than ecosystems; they may include any number of ecosystems. Earth has the following biomes:
  • Desert: low moisture, usually hot, but not always.
  • Grassland: prairie.
  • Shrubland: contains small trees because it usually receives more rainfall than the desert or grassland biomes, but less than the rainforest biome.
  • Rainforest: usually found in tropical climates, especially near the equator.
  • Coniferous Forest: usually contains evergreen trees.
  • Temperate Deciduous Forest: forests where the leaves change color in the fall.
  • Tundra: land that is permanently frozen. This does not always mean they receive heavy snow.
  • Marine: seas and oceans.
