Welcome to the Geometry online course. This initial unit is designed as the introductory unit in geometry. Students will be required to have a calculator, protractor, compass, and a straight edge/ruler to complete this unit/course. Below is the course syllabus as well as links to miscellaneous resources.

This lesson will let us all get to know one another a little better and allow us to explore our geometry tools that we need for this course. Start this lesson by going through the class introductory Prezi.

Objectives:

• Get to know our classmates
• Understand what the basic geometric tools for the class are.
• Demonstrate different the different types of symmetry.
  

Now that you've created a Prezi to share something about yourself with the class go through the following presentations on geometry tools and symmetry. After you've finished the two presentations your assignment is to use your geometric tools to create a picture that has both rotational and reflectional symmetry. Scan or take a digital picture of you completed assignment and upload it.

Today's lesson will cover the a lot of vocabulary. These terms that we will learn today will lay a foundation for a lot of other material that we will cover throughout this course. These terms are very important and we will have a vocabulary quiz on these terms as well as those we learn in the next few days.

Objectives:

• Understand several basic terms in Euclidean Geometry.
• Know the symbol notation for the terms that have them.
• Apply the terms and their symbols to geometric diagrams.
  

To help learn these terms we are going to jigsaw them in three groups. Below is a random number generator. In the first box enter a number one and a three in the second box. Then push the test button and you will be given a number between one and three. This number corresponds to the group that you will be in.

Below is the link to the closure activity and different assignments. After you've finished the closure quiz the feed back line will tell you which assignment to complete. Once you've finished the assignment either submit a digital copy of you competed assignment or hand deliver it to me.

This lesson will look into the concept of angles. You will learn what an angle is, how to measure one, and how to draw one.

Start this lesson by watching the following two videos about angles and how to measure them with a protractor. Then do the applet activity that is linked after the videos.

Go through the two activities linked below. Be sure to read through all directions and follow the activity instructions as you scroll down the page.

Below is attached your assignment for this lesson. It is a think-tac-toe. When you open the assignment you will find a three by three grid. You need to pick three boxes that would compete a tic-tac-toe in the grid. When you've completed the three boxes scan them and upload them to the assignment section or had deliver it to me.

In this lesson you will learn what makes a quality definition as an if-then statement. You will also explore several definitions related to lines and angles.

• Understand what acute angle, right angle, obtuse angle, vertical angle, linear pair, complementary angle, supplementary angle, parallel lines, and perpendicular lines are.

If-then statements are a basic form of logic and definition form in math. Go through the following worksheet to learn what an if-then statement is and how to write one as well as prove that one might be false. When you've completed the worksheet upload the completed worksheet.

Now that we know how to write if-then statements let's write some if-then statements for some new terms. Below you will see you name on one of three groups. Each group will be assigned to a wiki page on the wiki site below. Your group will go to your group wiki page and look at three different terms. Each term will have a picture showing you what it is and what it is not. As a group you will need to create a good if-then statement defining what each term is. Make sure there are no counterexamples. Once you've finished go to the other groups wikis and look at their terms. If you find a counterexample for any of their terms post the counter example, but don't fix their definition. If someone finds a counterexample for your groups definition go back and fix your if-then statement.

Your assignment for this lesson is to choose one of the three options and then upload your final product in the assignment link.

Option 1
Create a Prezi or Power Point that would teach all 9 new terms to someone who has never had geometry before.

Option 2
Create a short (10 minutes or less) movie that uses all 9 new terms and their definitions.

Option 3
Create a photo album showing each of the 9 new terms in photos found in the real world. There needs to be a photo for each term and a written description of how you know the picture is the term your using for it.

In this lesson we will discuss the basic concepts involving polygons. This lesson will begin with a quiz review all the terms we have learned so far.

• Understand what a polygon is.
• Identify different styles, parts, and types of polygons.
• Explain the difference between different types of polygons.

Start this lesson by first taking the quiz. Once you are finished with the quiz continue on with the activities for polygons.

Now that you've watched the videos about polygons you should be knowledgeable about the basic constructions of what a polygon is and how we classify them by sides. Your assignment is a raft assignment. Open the linked document as it will have instructions for you. One you've completed the assignment upload the completed product. If you product is something like a prezi or a youtube video upload a word document with the link to were the product can be viewed.

In this lesson we will learn how to classify different types of quadrilateral (four sided figures) and triangles (three sided figures).

Objectives

• Understand the different types of triangle and quadrilateral classifications
• Identify different types of quadrilaterals and triangles

Start this lesson by doing the applet linked below. In this applet you will separate quadrilaterals from non-quadrilaterals and then decide whether they are regular or not.

Now that we have learned about quadrilaterals lets look at triangles. Triangles can be classified by their angles or their sides. Start by working through the applet that classifies triangles by their sides. Then watch the video that discusses the different types of triangle classifications.

For your assignment for this lesson choose one of the following three options. Upload your finished product. If you product is a link, put the link in a word document and upload that document so I can access your finished product.

Option 1
Create a Prezi or Power Point that would teach how to classify triangles and quadrilaterals.

Option 2
Create a short (10 minutes or less) movie that demonstrates all the different types of triangles and quadrilaterals.

Option 3
Create a photo album showing all the different types of triangles and quadrilaterals in real life pictures. Explain what each picture is representing and how you know that it is representing a specific type of quadrilateral or triangle.

In this lesson you will learn about circles and their parts. This lesson will have you explore circle through a lab in an online software called Geogebra.

To start this lesson watch the tutorial video on Geogebra. Then open up the lab worksheet and get started.

The review is a worksheet that you can work through that will prepare you for the test. It will review all the concepts that we have learned throughout this unit. It will also be good for you to go over all of the vocabulary terms that we have learned throughout this unit.

This test is worth 40 points and is broken into two section. The first section is multiple choice. The second section is constructed response where you will need to create and label diagrams of the concepts we learned. For part B of the test you will need to save the GeoGebra document on your desktop. Then go to GeoGebra. One it is open go to file and open. Open up the save GeoGebra file on your desktop.
