In these first activities or assignments, you will see how Algebra tiles can be used to factor polynomials. You are not required to have Algebra tiles to perform this part of the unit. In fact, having them does not provide any advantage. There are applets that you will be interacting with instead.

Finding the Greatest Common Factor

So you've seen how to factor polynomials when you have Algebra tiles, but how is it done without them? In this section you learn a critical first step to factoring a polynomial.

Factoring Trinomials

So now let's finally get into factoring polynomials Algebraically. In this section we will be looking at a specific kind of polynomial: trinomials. A trinomial is a polynomial with three terms. Remember your first step in factoring is to always look for a GCF!

Factoring Binomials

So now that you know how to factor trinomials, we are going to move on to binomials. If trinomials are polynomials with three terms, binomials are polynomials with, you guessed it, two terms. There are two types of binomials we will look at in this section: perfect squares and cubes.

Factoring When There Are Four Terms

We have done a lot of factoring of polynomials, after all that is the unit. We have factored two terms and three terms. But what about if there are 4 terms?
