Forces That Move Earth's Plates

The following screencast introduces the concept of convection currents in Earth's mantle. Convection currents are responsible for circulating heat inside the Earth. This is also the driving force behind the movement of tectonic plates. The heat originates from radioactive decay in Earth's core, as well as leftover heat energy from the formation of our planet.
