The production of carbon dioxide gas by this reaction is what causes the bubbles when the tablets are put into water. The tablets do not react until they are put into water because most substances will not react very well if both are in the solid state (for reasons you will learn later).
Your goal is to come up with 3 factors that you think will affect the rate of this reaction. There are more than 3 factors, but you are not expected to come up with them all. Once you come up with your 3 factor you will then need to design and conduct an experiment to test to see if your factors are correct.
You need to be careful in your experimental design that you are only changing one factor at a time while the others are remaining constant. You also need to define how you are measuring the rate.
Your final paper must include:
____ 5 pts -
Factors:
A list of factors with a hypothesis for how each will effect the rate.
____ 20 pts -
Experimental:
List of materials and step by step procedure for how you tested each factor.
____ 10 pts -
Data and Observations:
All data and observations from your experiment, clearly labeled and formatted so they are easy to follow.
____ 10 pts -
Analysis:
Any calculations, and graphs that make your data easier to understand.
____ 15 pts -
Conclusion and Evaluation:
Concluding statement about what you learned about each factor. Also one paragraph evaluating your lab procedure, with suggestions for the future that are specific to problems you actually had with the lab.
