This is a unit set up for 6th grade students on Ancient Rome. Each box will take you through a different day in the unit. Below are the standards that will be touched on during this unit at both the National and District level.

Today you will discover Rome and the areas you want to know more about. Take 20 minutes to preview the different websites and start getting excited about Ancient Rome.

Remember, when previewing these websites, you are just getting a taste of Ancient Rome and all it has to offer. You will never see and read all there is on these websites. In the 20-30 minutes of time provided use the time to explore the areas that interest you the most.

DAY 2-3 OBJECTIVES:
Goal: Today we want you to understand where Ancient Rome is located.
Goal: To understand how geographical features (identify them) have impacted the development of the Roman Empire.

In order to study Rome you need to understand where Rome is located, what it is located by and some of it's geographical features. Use the maps to understand where Rome is located and it's surroundings.

Read and Learn:
Reading #1 will take you to a website that will allow you to read the basics of the Punic Wars. This will give you the base knowledge to get deeper in your understanding of these wars. At the bottom of article #1 there are some other tabs to click if you have time.
Reading #2 is about Hanibal. He is they guy that makes the Punic wars so this short article (website) will give you some information on him. You must read the first page. Anything more is extra.

Watch these Video on the Punic Wars. They will help you understand the war, who it was between, and why they were fighting. Watching these video's should be used in helping you answer the questions in the above asssignment.

Day 7:
Today the goal is to learn about some of the famous people of Ancient Rome.

There were many famous Emperors during this time period. Names such as Juliues Caesar, Octavian, Antony, Cicero, Augustus,Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antounious Pius, Marcus Aurelius, Constantine, Odoacer, Alaric just to name a few.

How to Present the information:
Watch the following video of a "how to" to learn more about a prezi and how it will enhance your presentation.

Day 8:
You need to learn about the First Triumvirate, who was involved with it and what it was. You will use the information from this video along with the Brain Pop to take the quiz at the end of that video.

An Assignment

Today you will be using what you know about Julius Caesar and what you read today about him to make a choice. Is he a Great Reformer or a Ambitious (having or showing a strong desire and determination to succeed) Dictator.

In order to pass this lesson today you will need to be able to support your answer with facts and details.

Before you read any of the information below make a choice using whatever information you currently know. The key is.. YOU HAVE TO MAKE A CHOICE.

Read the information first than make a choice. Make sure you support your choice with facts and stick up for your response. Let the debate begin.

After seeing what everyone else said now make your choice again. Did it change?

GOALS OF THE DAY:
You have learned that Octavian became Augustus and now the Roman world begins to change. The republic gave way to an empire, and peace and prosperity spread throughout the Mediterranean.

At the end of the day you should:
1) Know who Augustus is
2) What the word Pax Romana refers to
3) What some of the things Augustus achieved during his rule
4) Be able to CREATE a LIST of the different Emperors during this time period

First view the keynote on Roman Architecture. After you are done with that take a tour on a few of the websites exploring the different building and architecture of the time period.
